In her most recent work, 'De Lions', Beth Dillon examines her own family name and its supposed origins. While it is well known how family myths shape one's self-image and can influence one's biography, by following Beth Dillon in her attempt to pick up the pieces of her family china, the audience is reminded of how confronting one's own self-image remains a Sisyphean task, for which critical distance, humour and perseverance are essential.

Dans son travail le plus récent intitulé «De Lions», Beth Dillon se penche sur son propre nom de famille et ses origines supposées. Si l’on sait bien à quel point les mythes familiaux marquent l’image de soi et peuvent influencer une biographie, en suivant Beth Dillon dans sa tentative de recoller les morceaux de sa porcelaine familiale, le public se voit rappeler combien la confrontation avec l’image de soi reste un travail de Sisyphe, pour lequel il faut impérativement s’armer de distance critique, d’humour et de persévérance.

In ihrer jüngsten Arbeit «De Lions» setzt sich Beth Dillon mit dem eigenen Familiennamen und seiner angeblichen Herleitung auseinander. Dass Familienmythen das Selbstbild prägen und eine Biographie beeinflussen, ist bekannt. Wer Beth Dillon beim Versuch folgt, die Sprünge im familiären Porzellan zu kitten, wird daran erinnert, dass die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Selbstbild eine Sisyphusarbeit bleibt, in der uns nur kritische Distanz, Humor und Durchhaltewillen retten können.
