Roving endurance performance, Underbelly Arts Festival, Sydney, Australia, 2013.

110% was developed in collaboration with Kieran Bryant and Lachlan Herd for the 2013 Underbelly Arts Festival, held on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour, Australia. The work was a live performance series investigating the impact of positive thinking and competitive behaviours on artistic production and the conduct of everyday life. 

​

110% responds to the jargon of governmental cultural policy, community development initiatives, and New-Age strategies of self-improvement and productivity. The performance series examines how institutional optimism shapes expectations of the acceptable function of art in Australian culture and society. For the duration of the arts lab and festival, the built and natural environment of Cockatoo Island was transformed into a training area for the enhancement of the artists’ positive outlook and productive output through mental and physical exertion and experimentation.
